A plaque on the side of building in downtown Culpeper highlights the early home of General Ambrose Powell Hill, reading:
This marks the site of the boyhood home of Gen. A.P.Hill, CSA. Erected by the Culpeper Chapter, UDC 1932.

AP Hill led "Hill's Light Division" infantry, which was known for its speed - traveling long distances quickly on limited supplies. He was one of Stonewall Jackson's generals, and then later promoted to Lt. General of the Confederate Third Corps. A large military base in Virginia is named after him, where the Boy Scouts of America used to have their national jamborees.
