The University origins date back to 1581, which makes it the oldest institution of higher education in Romania. It was named after two prominent Transylvanian scientists – the Romanian biologist Victor Babes and the Hungarian mathematician János Bolyai. Located in Transylvania, a European province with a complex history, Universitatea Babes-Bolyai is the crowning achievement of a long series of attempts to establish here a higher education institution.
