This is easily the most impressive pagoda in the sizeable city of Myawaddy, a Burmese border city with Thailand. The most distinctive and impressive, in several ways, feature of the pagoda, is the central stupa. This is a bright gold in colour. The reason it is bright gold in colour is the total of 386kgs of gold which will eventually adorn its exterior surface. Considering the gross domestic product of the city this is a sizeable expenditure.

Apart from this stupa there are a host of other Buddhist images present inside the pagoda grounds. There is a school nearby and I noticed more than a few school children playing inside the pagoda. I was told, and there is an historical plaque in the temple, in Burmese, that the pagoda dates back 1500 years, and was founded by the King.

The temple is situated only a short distance from the border, maybe a ten minute walk. Don't bring your best shoes. Waymark made at the southern entrance.
