Carved of black and white marble, this 12-foot (4m) high sculpture is one of Kainz many marvelous stone sculptures. Daniel Kainz is a local artist and was one of the founding sculptors of the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, where over 250 sculptures are on display. Their web site offers this further account of Kainz and his work:

"For fifteen years, between 1964 to1980, Daniel Kainz apprenticed and came to master stone carving as an employee of the Wenz Company, Inc. in Allentown, PA. Here he developed new sandblasting techniques, studied with master stone carvers from Italy, and created his early stone sculptures. Since 1991, Kainz has been the general manager of the sculpture division at Wenz Company, Inc. Having apprenticed with artist Karen Mikolas, Kainz’s expertise encompasses wood carving and glass work as well.

Kainz has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and his work is included in various public and private collections including: Albright College, reading, PA; Widener University Law School, Chester, PA; Lincoln University, Lincoln, PA; Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA; Ursinus College and the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of Art both located in Collegeville, PA."

This sculpture garden is listed in the Sculpture Magazine in their directory of sculpture gardens with the following short description: "Phillip and Muriel Berman Sculpture Park: The nations largest display of outdoor art in a healthcare setting with 28 works located on the 118-acre campus. Works by Cassidy, Garofalo, Gordon, Hide, Hock, Isherwood, Kainz, Macklin, Shaw, Sternal, and Zweygardt. Lehigh Valley Hospital 1243 South Cedar Crest Blvd., Allentown, PA 18103"
