Need to find out how to say hello in Tibetan? Need the latest Russian, German, Korean or Arabic newspaper? Monterey is the language capital of the world. And while the library of the Defense Language Institute (
visit link) is currently not open to the public, the library of the Monterey Institute of International Studies on Van Buren Street is.
In addition to its unsurpassed collection of dictionaries in all languages one can imagine and an outstanding compilation on international policy this library has a huge stack of maps. Every year, there are students from over 100 countries studying at MIIS and many of them contribute to the institute’s collection. So, if you are planning a road trip through Turkmenistan – this is a good place to start.
