Six hundred kilometres, an overnight bus ride, from the towering megalopolis of Bangkok is the small provincial capital of Lamphun, in the north of the Kingdom of Thailand. As one would expect, there is a bus station for this city and province. From this station people travel, largely it seems, to the nearby much larger city of Chiang Mai (maybe 1/3 of the station bus bay signs said 'Chiang Mai'). Also buses leave to Bangkok, and the villages within the province. Seemingly, as Chiang Mai is only 30kms distant, and as the Chiang Mai bus station is a major transport hub, and as there is only one overly neighbouring province, most locals, who wish to travel elsewhere, first travel to Chiang Mai.
In design the station is entirely standard. There is a long, central, open waiting area, with chairs and a few people waiting and sleeping. At the far end, a small shop selling food and drink, toilets. At the main entrance ticket counters. On one side a line of tuk tuks ready and waiting to convey you around the town.
