King Chulalongkorn (b. 1853-d. 1910), also known as King Rama 5 (reigned: 1868-1910), is one of the great kings of Thailand, and fondly remembered by his people. He is known for resisting the nefarious imperial ambitions of both Britain and France, modernising his country, and reforming the governmental administration. Statues of him are to be seen throughout Thailand, and invariably at the front of provincial administration buildings (Provincial Halls).

This statue of the King is found at the main entrance to the Provincial Hall of Tak Province, which abuts Myanmar, in western Thailand. The statue itself is much like its compatriots in other provinces. The King is depicted standing, in military dress, facing outwards. In his left hand his sword, in his right a pith helmet. The statue is life-sized and stands on a plinth, which has a biographical plaque. Having said that, this presentation of the King is more elaborate than most. There is a sizeable backdrop to the King, framing the statue, and the dais upon which the plinth stands is larger than most.

As with most public statues in Thailand this is also a shrine. Locals visiting the Hall will pay their respects to the King.
