In Newton, in an alcove to the left of the entrance to the Newton Masonic Building is a time capsule, with a plaque with the following text:
"Newton Masonic Building
Time Capsule Committed Beneath
[Masonic Logo] Committed 1896
Opened 1996
Recommitted 2010
To Be Opened 2110"
The contents were on display in the Masonic building. According to an online notice from Palestine Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, that meets in the building , the original contents of the time capsule contained "autographs of Civil War generals, Grant, McClellan, and Sheridan; vividly colored one-cent stamps; and unfaded
September 18, 1896, editions of three different Newton
newspapers.”
I don't know what was put in the time capsule in 2010.
