This monument for the 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This is one of two markers to the 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry on the battlefield. The 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry was organized at Fort Wayne (Detroit), near Detroit, Michigan and mustered into Federal service on on October 15, 1861. This marker indicates the position held by the 9th at 2:30 P.M. on September 20, 1863. The monument to the 9th Michigan is also located on Wilders Rd east of this marker at N 34° 55.501 W 85° 16.837.
