This milestone is something of an oddity! It doesnt appear on old Ordnance Survey maps as a milestone. In any case, it would not have stood at it's current location when originaly 'planted' since the approach to the bridge where it stands was not built until the early 1970's.
There are a number of 'stones' marked on the old maps. It is in the same style as others on the Ripon to Harrogate road but seems to have been missed out by the OS.
