Landmark school was built in 1984, and used both as a grade school, and high school at the same time. The school's unique feature is a bell tower which is still in working order.
The citizens of McHenry rose to protest when the school board planned to demolish the school in 1967. Many signed a petition to save the school. It now is a K-5 school. It was plaqued by the McHenry Landmark Commission.
