This monument to the 9th Michigan Infantry Regiment is located on the northern edge of Wilders Rd (or Lytle Road) in the Chickamauga National Military Park. A second marker to the 9th stands west of this monument.

This monument for the
9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry is in recognition of their service during the
Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. This is one of two markers to the 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry on the battlefield. The 9th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry was organized at Fort Wayne (Detroit), near Detroit, Michigan and mustered into Federal service on on October 15, 1861. A second near by marker (N 34° 55.536 W 85° 16.964 )indicates the position held by the 9th at 2:30 P.M. on September 20, 1863.

Short Significance Description:

The marker contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description
4' x 4' x 4' high, only the base of monument survives. This is a rock-faced shaft with a smooth-faced, sloped top that carries an inscription. Marks unit's position at 2:30 p.m. on September 20, 1863. --- NOTE: appears to be a combination of the two markers. The second marker does not appear to be included in the NRHP (MT-889) DB.
