"A actual Casa das Artes de Arcos de Valdevez beneficia de um enquadramento urbano privilegiado: a fachada principal abre-se para o jardim dos Centenários e o alçado posterior para o rio Vez, para a encosta de Giela, com o monte Guião no topo. A sua edificação remonta à segunda metade do século XVIII, e deve-se à família Pereira de Vilhena, cujo brasão deve ter figurado no frontispício desta casa, antes de ser substituído pelo que hoje conhecemos, esquartelado e com os símbolos dos Araújo, Azevedo, Vasconcelos e Gama, pertencente aos segundos proprietários. De facto, em 1810, o imóvel foi adquirido pelo Conselheiro Gaspar de Azevedo Araújo, razão pela qual é também designado por "Casa do Conselheiro". Mais tarde, a casa seria novamente vendida ao industrial António Dias Gonçalves e. já na década de 90 do século XX foi comprada pela Câmara, que procedeu a obras de conservação e reutilização do espaço, com o objectivo de aí instalar a Casa das Artes, dotada de uma biblioteca, um auditório e uma área de exposições.
Apesar das muitas alterações de que foi objecto, o imóvel mantém as características setecentistas que o enquadram, de forma exemplar, na arquitectura civil barroca do Norte do pais."

"The current Casa das Artes de Arcos de Valdevez enjoys a privileged urban environment: the main facade opens onto the garden of the centenarians and the subsequent elevation to the river Vez, for the slope of Giela, with Mount Guião at the top. Its building dates from the latter half of the eighteenth century, and is due to Pereira de Vilhena family, whose coat of arms must have figured in the frontispiece of the house, before being replaced by what we know today, quartered and with symbols of Araújo, Azevedo, Vasconcelos and Gama, belonging to the 2nd owners. In fact, in 1810, the property was acquired by the Counselor Gaspar Araújo de Azevedo, why is also called "House of the Counselor".
