Teatro Maria Matos is a theatre in Lisbon, Portugal. It opened its doors to the public on 22 October 1969 in honor of an actress of great prestige, Maria Matos.
The construction of the structure was undertaken by the architect Fernando Ramalho. It has recently undergone reconstruction by Barros da Fonseca.
On 24 September 1982, the theater was purchased by the city of Lisbon.
With more conventional and popular past in 1999, the Teatro Maria Matos takes a willingness to change, modernize itself, and starting to have a more diverse program becoming a space to experiment new artistic languages??, imposing itself as an alternative space between the various publics of Lisbon and Portugal.
