The Femme Osage Evangelical Church

First German Evangelical congregation west of the Mississippi.  Founded in 1833 by Rev. Hermann Garlichs from Bremen, Germany.  His successor in a 45 year ministry was the Rev. Casper H. Bode.  The present church building was erected in 1888.  For 33 years was located in this parish the Theological Seminary of the Nirchenverein Des Westens (Later the Evangelical Synod of North America), now known as Eden Theological Seminary and located in Webster Grove, Mo.

History of Mark:
"Femme Osage Church, founded in 1833, as the first German Evangelical Church west of the Mississippi River. The church pictured, erected in 1888 is the third structure to house this congregation. The foundation of the current church was constructed using the stones from the previous church. It is situated on the Cappeln-Osage Road in the beautiful Femme Osage Valley, north of Augusta, Missouri." ~ Femme Osage UCC
