Raglan's world famous surf breaks are found at three points: Manu Bay, Whale Bay and The Indicators. The waves are big!
Surf Conditions: Whale Bay near Raglan on the West Coast south of Auckland is a reasonably exposed reef and point break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work at any time of the year. The best wind direction is from the southeast. Still reasonable in light onshore winds Tends to receive a mix of groundswells and windswells and the optimum swell angle is from the southwest. A left hand reef break. Best around mid tide. When it's working here, it can get crowded. Hazards include rocks and locals.
Parking is provided on Calvert Road and Tohora Cl. The bay can be reached by walking down through a small reserve or down the steps at the road-end of Tohora Cl where a grassy walking track runs right along the rocky edge of the coastline allowing good viewing of the surfers in action.
