The church dates back to Saxon times. Most of the older grave stones are laid down and the churchyard is no longer used for burials.
Inscription on one of the headstones reads -
"In memory of George Hawksworth,
born September 1st 1831,
died February 20th 1884.
"I know that my redeemer liveth".
Also
Elizabeth wife of the above
John Hawksworth who died
Feb 27th 1902 in the 72nd
year of her age."
