Located just outside of Titusville PA Drake's Well is the first commercial oil well ever to be drilled.

On August 27th 1859 Col. Edwin L. Drake and his drilling expert Uncle Billy Smith drilled to the depth 69 feet and struck oil. After the news of this achievement reached the public the rush was on and the modern oil age was begun.
For their part in the modern age of medicines, fuel, food and numerous other things the American Chemical Society (ACS)Designated Drake Well as a landmark on August 27, 2009 in ceremony in Titusville.
