In the nearby plaque can be read:
«The "Casa da Água" building dates back to 1770 and is part of a network supplying potable water to the sanctuary (of Espichel Cape) through an aqueduct that began at "mãe d'água" (water mother), a number of springs in the neighbouring village of Azóia that were combined into a domed fountain.
The hexagonal building house a "rocaille" fountain, and it's walls were decorated in tile murals showing scenes from day-to-day 18th century life.»
Nowadays, both, the fountain and the water house, are without use.
