The Reserve
The Natural Reserve of the Tagus Estuary is a protected area in Portugal.
The Tagus estuary is the largest wetland in the country and one of the most important in Europe, a sanctuary for fish, molluscs, crustaceans, and especially for birds, that when it stops their migration between northern Europe and Africa. It is the largest estuary in Western Europe, with about 34 000 hectares and regularly receives fifty thousand wintering waterfowl (flamingos, ducks, waders, etc.).

The Center
Opened in 1993, the Interpretation Centre of the Natural Reserve of the Tagus Estuary was the first space for receiving visitors created in the Reserve. In the main lobby are usually different exhibitions, it's possible to purchase different materials about protected areas and nature conservation in general. In the auditorium are held lectures and it's possible to watch movies on to the Reserve. On the top, the gazebo, equipped with telescope, allows interesting observations estuarine landscape and birds that use food as a field of vast areas of bare mud during low tide.
