The Barnsley Heritage Plaque records the attendance of Joseph Locke at The Barnsley Grammar School here. The building is now the Cooper Gallery. In 1912 Samual Joshua Cooper purchased the school to turn it into an art gallery for the people of Barnsley. This was completed just before his death.

Joseph Locke was a world wide renowned railway engineer. He built and developed railways all over england and on the continent. A full history is given in the web site listed lower down.
