In the early days of Ottawa, circa 1910, Patterson Creek was referred to as the "lagoon". A gently arched footbridge crossed the lagoon in the vicinity of the current Queen Elizabeth Driveway Bridge. It had wrought iron railings and polychromed precast concrete post. These same railings and posts can now be found on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway bridge. While the bridge appears to have been built in 1912, the architect who designed the bridge is unknown.
There is a a stone façade over and around the concrete arch on both sides of the bridge. This is a beautifully constructed bridge in a most pleasing setting next to the Rideau Canal.
