This skating rink was built by F Ritter Shumway so that he could continue practicing. It was also part of the RIT campus when it was downtown.

The Inner Loop cut the campus in half. You can see The Bevier Memorial Building and the Brewster-Burke House on the north side of the Inner Loop. Both of these buildings were part of the original Mechanics Institute (before it took the name Rochester Institute of Technology), but this arena is isolated on this south side of the Inner Loop.

A new rink was built on the new RIT campus in Henrietta, and is called the Frank Ritter Memorial Arena. This arena is used by the Skating Institute of Rochester, and numerous high school hockey teams.
