The doors still swing open to welcome the visitor to New Bethel Methodist Church. Outside a large bell is anchored on a brick pedestal ready to call the worshipper to prayer.

Members gathered at Bethel schoolhouse for their first worship service in 1875, but it wasn’t until 1913 that they built the small white frame church. When the church closed in 1985, the building was moved to the Guthrie County Historical Village. The eight original stained glass windows are its most striking feature. In the entry photos and church history are enclosed in a hinged display rack. Commemorative plates from 1963 relate to the church’s 50th anniversary celebration.

The congregation still holds annual services at New Bethel, and it is popular for small weddings.
