This C-137, manufactured by Boeing, was accepted into the Air Force on Aug 4, 1972 after 200 hours of testing and was first used as "Air Force One" by President Nixon in February 1973. Its tail number is 27000.
President Reagan made his first trip aboard 27000 on Feb 22, 1981 from Andrews Air Force Base to Santa Barbara.
27000 became a back-up plane in 1990 when George H.W. Bush replaced it with a 747. On August 29, 2001, President George W. Bush became the 7th and last President to fly 27000.
The plane is now located in its own indoor pavilion at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley. It is possible to tour the inside of the aircraft which appears much as it did when used by President Reagan.
The plane may be viewed with admission to the Reagan Library. Information on hours, directions and admissions is HERE. The posted coordinates for the waymark are on the exterior portion of the pavilion. One of the more dramatic features of the pavilion is the large glass wall that plane's nose faces. You can stand outside and view Air Force One through the windows. The plane has been installed at a 2 degree angle to give the sensation of takeoff.
To record your own visit to Air Force One, take your own photo of the plane and post it with your log. Please post some brief comments about your visit as well. Logs must contain the required photo or will be removed. Thanks.Air Force One is too large to photograph in a single frame:
