The Royal Mail confirmed this week that an employee from its Machynlleth Delivery Office has been suspended while it conducts an investigation into the ‘intentional delay’ of 3,000 items of mail.
It is believed that the mail could have been delayed for as long as 18 months, although it is understood that the discovery only came to light three weeks ago. Cllr Mike Williams said there were ‘serious’ concerns that delayed mail could have involved items such as residents’ hospital appointments.
He added: “A number of my constituents have mentioned to me that they have received delayed mail with a covering letter of apology.
