This sign is on the east side of Calera along AL Highway 25 at CR-310. It states Calera is the Home of the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum. Other signs have been added below the main sign which states Calera is home to the 1996 Class 1-A State Basketball Champions, home to NASCAR driver Hut Stricklin and home to the 1997 Class 2-A State Basketball Champions.

Per Wikipedia, the city of Calera was incorporated in 1887, and named after the Spanish word for "limestone" for all of the limestone deposits it has in the area. Since 2000, the city has doubled its population, making it the fastest growing city in Alabama. As of the 2010 Census, the population of Calera is 11,620.
