Ala dos Namorados is a mural made of tiles placed in pavilhão Carlos Lopes in Lisbon.
The mural represents a scene from the Battle of Aljubarrota. Aljubarrota was a battle fought between the Kingdom of Portugal and the Crown of Castile on 14 August 1385. The forces commanded by King John I of Portugal and his general Nuno Álvares Pereira, with the support of English allies (About 6,500 men), opposed the army of King John I of Castile with its Aragonese, Italian and French allies (About 31,000 men) at São Jorge place, between the towns of Leiria and Alcobaça, in central Portugal. The result was a decisive victory for the Portuguese, ruling out Castilian ()ambitions to the Portuguese throne, ending the 1383-1385 Crisis and assuring John as King of Portugal.
Portuguese forces had less than 1000 casualities against 5000 casualities from the Castillan side thanks to the strategy of D. Nuno Alvares Pereira (see more here (

The Ala dos Namorados (Boyfriends Wing) was the Portuguese left wing in the battle and was composed by the youngest troops in the battle. They were called this way because they were all in the age when boys start to date and most of them had girlfriends. They were considered one of the most brave and valuable troops in the battle.
This panel depicts the Ala dos Namorados in Battle and a young knight, dead, with the sword upon him and by it´s side, his shield with the inscription "Por Minha Dama" (For my Lady/Maid).
The Panel was made in 1922 by the Portuguese painter Jorge Colaço (the author of the tiles at São Bento Station in Oporto).
