The obelisk is constructed in red brick and was built in 1761. It bears the initials EMP and its pointed, tapered top is topped with a ball finial. Being completely hidden by the wood which covers the hillfort the obelisk is not noticeable until you are standing next to it, a miraculous feat of nature covering mankind's old forgotten footsteps.

The hillfort dates back to the Iron Age and the ditches and dips in the undergrowth hide a bi-vallate design.
