The Harkey’s Chapel United Methodist Church is located in Coal City (Coal Mountain), Alabama outside of Pell City. There are cemeteries on both sides of the church. The older cemetery is on the left side and the newer cemetery is on the right side.
The original Harkey's Chapel was a log house of worship built near Broken Arrow Creek, six miles from the Coosa River. It was named Harkey’s Chapel for the first minister, the Rev. David Harkey of the Cahawba Circuit. The present church was built 1903-04 by A. I. Abels with community helpers. It has been preserved by members of Harkey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. It was entered into the Alabama Register of Historic Places in 1978.
