In 1900, Andrew Carnegie offered $50,000 for a building if property was acquired. Over $12,000 was raised locally to purchase a lot at the corner of Perry and Adams Streets. The new library was opened in 1904. It was used until 1959 when the library was moved to a new facility a few blocks away. The Carnegie Building is currently used by the city of Montgomery to house the Property Appraisal Office.
