Ouranos II is a bronze work by Etienne Hadju dated from 1957. It was inaugurated in the Amoreiras garden on April 18, 2001 for the exhibition of sculptures and drawings by "Friends of Arpad and Vieira" held the Foundation Arpad Szenes-Vieira da Silva.
"Ouranos II" was donated to the Foundation by the widow of the artist Luce Hadju thereby fulfilling a desire of the artist, just weeks before his disappearance (in 1996), that the piece was placed in the garden opposite the museum in memory of friendship that united him the couple Arpad and Vieira since 1930, the year that the sculptor Etienne was naturalized French. Etienne was Romanian of Hungarian origin as Arpad.
This piece is a kind of bird-figure silhouette, which draws clearly the sculptural concerns of this artist. In particular, the research that seeks a seamless combination of light and shadow, one that is enhanced by elements that integrate fragmented suggesting waveforms sugesting rhythm and movement, and simultaneously a feeling of dynamic space.

There´s a tree growing right by the side of the sculpture that disturbs the observation of the sculpture (The gardener probably thought that the sculpture needed some shadow). Maybe when the tree grows a little more we can properly enjoy this work.
