This was Eagan’s second town hall. It was built in 1914 to replace the original town hall (at a different site), which burned down.
The location for this town hall was chosen because it was close to the center of Eagan Township. This building served as town hall until 1965.
The city of Eagan was named for Patrick Eagan, who was the first chairman of the town board of supervisors.
Eagan was once a farming community, populated heavily by Irish immigrants. It was once known as the Onion Capital of the United States.
With the completion of Highway 77 (Cedar Ave) in 1980, population increased and the community shifted away from its farming roots. Population increased again with the extension of I35E through Eagan in 1985.
