This Buddhist shrine is located in a grassed area in the middle of the town of Songkhla, inside the Songkhla province government precinct. Surrounding the shrine is the provincial hall, the provincial court and a dozen or more other buildings housing various government instrumentalities—all caring for and managing the lives of the people of the province. I would assume that this is the shrine for these offices. A government precinct shrine is standard practice, but this is the largest and most ornate I have seen in Thailand. It resembles in design a small 'City Pillar Shrine', in the Thai style.
