Fondée au début du XIIème siècle, l'abbaye des Vaux de Cernay connut rapidement une grande prospérité.
Elle fut à l'origine d'autres abbayes, dont celle de Port Royal à quelques kilomètres.
Au XVème siècle, l'abbaye subit des pillages de bandes armées et perd peu à peu de son lustre jusqu'à un abandon complet à la Révolution Française.
Elle restera en ruines jusqu'à son rachat à la fin du XIXème siècle par la Baronne De Rothschild qui restaura une partie des constructions.
Aujourd'hui le domaine abrite un hôtel et un restaurant de prestige dans le cadre d'un parc propice à de calmes promenades autour de l'étang.
On peut encore y admirer la rosace de l'église et une partie de la nef ainsi que la salle des Moines du XIIIème et sa voûte en ogive.
Dans le parc de 75 hectares on trouve le colombier de la fontaine Saint-Thibaut.
Le domaine accueille aussi des séminaires et diverses manifestations culturelles.

Based at the beginning of the XIIth century, the abbey of the Valleys of Cernay quickly knew a big prosperity.
It was at the origin of the other abbeys, of which that of "Port Royal" in some kilometers.
In the XVth century, the abbey undergoes plunders of armed gangs and loses little by little of its sheen up to a complete abandonment in the French Revolution.
It will stay ruins until its repurchase at the end of the XIXth century by the Baroness Of Rothschild there who restored a part of the constructions.
Today the domain shelters a hotel and a prestigious restaurant within the framework of a park convenient to quiet walks around the pond.
We can again admire there the rosette of the church and a part of the nave as well as the room of the Monks of the XIIIth and its ribbed vault.
In the 75 hectare park we find the dovecote of the fountain Saint-Thibaut.
The domain also welcomes seminars and diverse cultural events.
