"The Omaha Firefighters Memorial, located along the Lewis and Clark Riverfront in Downtown Omaha, was dedicated on September 11, 2009. Without the support of the citizens of Omaha, this project would not have been possible. Many people and organizations spent long hours to create this fitting tribute dedicated to the fallen Omaha firefighters and their families. This memorial is a wonderful compliment to the riverfront area. from the centerpiece of local Artist Matthew Placzek’s sculpture “The Protector,” to the pedestals engraved with names of the fallen, to the brick walkway inscribed with names of active and retired firefighters, to the landscaping and the city vista itself; these all come together to create a memorial worthy of the sacrifice of these fifty-five firefighters and their families."
