The Petit Palais, now an art museum, was built for the Universal Exhibition in 1900. Charles-Louis Girault was the chief architect of Petit Palais. Construction took three years. It is called the Petit Palais because a much larger and similar "Grand Palais" is located across the street--also built for the 1900 Exposition.
This sculpture depicts 3 women and a young girl. The woman in the center appears to wear a quiver on her back....leading to my speculation that these figures are intended to represent the mythic Greek warrior women known as Amazons. The woman on the central figure's left has her head in her palm - with her arm resting on her knee....seemingly in a daydream. The third woman on the opposite side rests her head on the central figures thigh and looks back..away from the viewer. The child, sits with legs crossed...perhap doing needlework. There is no information at the site concerning the title, date or artist.
