Davidson/Sumner County Line

No Marker Number

D-Side Text: “Established 1783; named in honor of Brig. Gen. William Lee Davidson of North Carolina. Distinguished officer in the Revolutionary War. Served with the Army at Valley Forge. Killed in action at Cowan‘s Ford, N.C., 1781.”

S-Side Text: “Established 1786; named in honor of Major Gen. Jethro Sumner Officer in French and Indian War. Served in defense of Charleston, 1776; in the Battles of Brandywine and Germantown; and in the Army at Valley Forge. His last service was in defense of North Carolina against Cornwallis.”

Notes: Marker is semi-difficult to get to. Located on the western side of the bridge over the Cumberland River. Though there are public businesses somewhat close on the Davidson County side, there is no sidewalk that leads to the marker. Thankfully, the road shoulder is decently wide, but use great caution with the traffic in the area. The marker is also, at present, mostly knocked down and will be hard to spot.
