The original Alsea Bay Bridge was built in 1936 and was replaced by a new bridge in 1992. The Historic Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center was constructed in 1993 by the Oregon Department of Transportation as part of the bridge replacement project. The Center is operated by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department with staffing assistance from the Waldport Chamber of Commerce which has its office in the building.

The front part of the building provides Waldport area visitor information services while the remainder of the building houses displays about the historic bridge and current bridges and a display of the history of transportation along the Oregon Coast.
