All of the ice cream here is homemade with Hayward's own recipes from local dairies. Over fifty flavors of premium ice cream, sherbert, and frozen yogurt are available. Burgers and sandwiches are also served.
Here is a bit of history from Hayward's Ice Cream web site: "Open in 2001 it sits on the property of what once was Hayward Farms. The farm had over 150 milking cows. The milk was sold locally and used to make our Ice Cream. Since the closing of the farm, Hayward's Ice Cream has had to rely on other ice cream manufacturers to make our ice cream with our recipes. That all changed in 2008 when Hayward's got it's ice cream room up and running again for the first time in 20 years."
And, for the origins of the business: "For over 70 years, Hayward's has been producing Southern New Hampshire's favorite homemade premium ice cream. The quality and flavor is second to none.
On June 15th, 1940, Hayward's Ice Cream Stand opened their windows for the very first time. Since it's inception, Hayward's has been family owned and operated. From 1940 till 1964, founders Charles P. and Fredericka Hayward owned and managed Hayward's Ice Cream. In 1964 Hayward's was turned over to their daughter, Trudy and then husband Mike Ordway. In 1977 Mike Ordway and his wife Linda, purchased Hayward's Ice Cream from Charles P. and Fredericka Hayward.
In 1996, Chris Ordway, a third generation Hayward and son to Mike and Trudy, along with his brother-in-law Frank Robinson, purchased Hayward's Ice Cream from Mike. Chris and Frank are still the current owners of Hayward's Ice Cream and Hayward's of Milford. "
