Text from the plaque:
"The Peace River
From the headwaters in the mountains of British Columbia, the waters of the mighty Peace River flow throgh this valley on their way to the Arctic Ocean. The river is so named because it was on these banks that a peace between warring Cree and Beaver indians was concluded. Travelled first by indians and fur traders, and later by missionaries, gold seekers and settlers, the river has served as a highway for the development of Northern Alberta."
