This Roman Castellum (Fortress) was build in 180 under the Gouvernment of Emperior Marcus Aurelius. It measured 240 to 150 m., 1000 soldiers lived there.
Soon a little "kampdorpje" (vicus) arised. It was called Rodanum. In 300 the Romans left Aardenburg.
In the little museum and at some places in the town there are remains to be seen of this period.
Aardenburg is the oldest town of Zeeland.
