Quite why there is a giant kettle hanging outside MIDDLETON'S, asteakhouse and grill restaurant on North Hill in Colchester, I don't know. The premises housed a Strada Italian restaurant until recently ans was probably an ironmongers in a previous existence.
This MIDDLETON'S boasts a beautifully designed bar area for pre dinner drinks, a charming rear garden for al fresco dining, and a restaurant split over two floors of this grade II listed building.
Located on North Hill, Middleton's has retained the original outside architectural features of the building which was a C17th house, timber-framed and plastered and with tiled roofs. It has been refronted in red brick in the C18th, with a parapet, an eight-window range of double hung sashes with glazing bars. The south part of the front breaks forward slightly with three windows (there is a Venetian window on the 1st floor), a carriage entrance at the north end of the front has a brick arched head. There is a large early C17th wing at the rear, and has one transomed window with leaded casements. They now have modern shop fronts. The kettle is hung at first floor level at the south end of the property.
The name of the establishment has changed from 'Strada' to Middleton's only recently and update information was supplied by Master Mariner in October 2015.
