This monument is a part of a larger memorial to veterans of all of America's wars. It is located outside the American Legion's Alabama War Memorial building.
This particular monument reminds one that those who served in this war were the sons and grandsons of those who fought under the flag of the Confederate States of America not that many years before. Yet they came together under the American flag, as Americans, to fight for their country.
