Le Loiret - Versailles, France - Figurative Public Sculpture on Waymarking.com

This 1689 bronze sculpture is entitled La Loiret. It depicts a woman laying down on her left side. Her dress reveals her breasts and flows to mid-thigh. She wears a laurel and apparently has some of her hair braided (or is that a small wreath?) A cherub presents her with some flowers. Her side is propped up by a large basin from which water flows. Her right hand is in the water flowing out. The title indicates that this figure represents the "Loiret," a tributary of the Loire, the longest river in France. There are similar works nearby representing other important rivers in France.
The artists are Balthasar Keller (1638-1702) and Thomas Regnaudin (1622-1706).
