This is a stunning carved gritstone rock set into the gentle slope behind Gardom's Edge with views eastwards towards Birchen Edge; but everything here is not what it seems.

First discovered in the 1960's, this rock was carved in the Bronze Age. It's not clear what the carvings mean.
The main part of the design itself consists of a pair of touching ovals, each containing ten cups evenly distributed within each oval, a deep cup with two outer rings and between the three motifs is what could be a spiral or possibly a modified cup and ring. The lower part of the rock also has a couple of less distinct cups with rings.
When you visit, give a knock on the stone. You might awaken what was buried underneath!
There are no information boards or direction signs, so directions are given below.
The recommended approach is from the crossroads gate at N 53°15.734, W 001°35.067' (parking on the verge just up the hill). At N 53°15.691,W 001°35.071 a path branches off to the right towards N 53°15.511,W 001°35.338 and then the rock. The distance from the gate is about 0.7 miles.
