The Civil War Monument in Scarborough is also known as the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. An Approximately 7' high figure of a Union soldier is standing on a pedestal which is about 18' high by 7.75' wide by 7.75' deep. Both the statue and the base are made of granite. The monument, by an unknown sculptor, was commissioned by the Scarborough's Soldiers and Sailors Association and dedicated in June 1913.
A standing uniformed Union soldier stands atop a multi-tiered base. The moustached soldier stands holding a rifle vertically in front of him with both hands on the barrel, left over right. The butt of the rifle rests on the ground near his right leg. He is wearing a knee-length coat, a cape and cap. The front of the base is inscribed:
SCARBORO
TO HER SONS
WHO FOUGHT
FOR
THE UNION
