The museum was formerly the house of Rev. Elias Van Bunschooten of the Dutch Reformed Church. The house and outbuildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Sites and Places in 1974. Now functioning as a museum, all 10 rooms of the house are open for public display and contain furnishings, tools and clothing that date from 1787 to 1860. Many of the items were donated by the families that lived in the house.
