The church opened in October 1842, and was consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield.
Matlock Bath is a small town that had grown very quickly in the Victorian times. The popularity of the town was based on spa waters and there were a number of establishments offering spa treatments.
As the population of the town grew a new, bigger church was required and this was the result. It is alongside the main road through the town on a small hill and so the clocks are highly visible, but unfortunately are not currently working.
The church is a Grade II Listed building.
