The Civil War Monument in Westbrook is an approximately 6' high bronze sculpture of a Union soldier on a 10' base created by Theo Alice Rugg Kitson. The contractor for the monument was Charles Ames and the statue was cast at the Gorham Manufacturing Company, foundry. It was dedicated on July 4, 1917. The rear of the plinth is inscribed: this bronze figure was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Woodbury K. Dana to the City of Westbrook, 1917. The monument was cleaned in, May 1995, by Richardson Monuments of South Portland, Maine.

A uniformed Union soldier has his right foot in front of his left as if he is walking. He is looking to the left. He is holding a rifle, on its side, by the butt with his right hand. The barrel of the rifle resting on his right shoulder. His left hand is at his waist . A knapsack is slung over his left shoulder and rests on his right hip and he is carrying a canteen. The monument is set in the center of a grassy circle.

AS THEY WERE UPON THE SIRES
THE SAFETY OF THE COUNTRY
LIES IN THE INTELLIGENCE
THE MORAL CHARACTER THE PATRIOTISM
OF HER CITIZENS

A plaque on the left side of the base is inscribed:
